1997 993 GT2R
Buried in a warehouse for over 20 years, this 1997 993 GT2 received a full restoration back to factory spec.
This extraordinarily rare 1997 Porsche 993 GT2R, one of only ten built, carries a story as remarkable as its pedigree. Originally delivered to Roberto Nieto in South America, chassis 4070's racing destiny was derailed at the 2000 Daytona 24 Hours when a gearbox issue prevented its competition debut. Sold on the spot at Daytona to American Porsche racer Michael A. Jacobs, the car campaigned for several years in U.S. competition before passing to California collector Robert Rodriguez. Secreted away in a Los Angeles warehouse, chassis 4070 lay dormant and untouched for nearly two decades. Its 2024 rediscovery reads like an archaeological find. AJR Restorations, successor to Alex Job Racing's legendary endurance racing legacy, with multiple class victories at Le Mans, Daytona, and Sebring, uncovered not just this sleeping giant but an entire forgotten cache. Among the treasures: a Seikel-run GT2R and, remarkably, a brand-new factory 993 GT2R replacement tub, the very last air-cooled tub ever to leave Porsche's factory. Chassis 4070 claimed priority for what would become an obsessive restoration.
